Really enjoyed the Lightroom class. It was full of practical tips and advice that I can actually use, and no question felt like too much trouble. The whole thing was really approachable and easy to follow and I came away feeling a lot more confident using Lightroom!

I recently attended a portrait photography workshop and it was excellent. The facilitation was spot on and it was refreshing to learn from someone so genuinely passionate about the craft. The focus on real world examples made everything very easy to apply to my own photos. It was also a really inclusive and welcoming environment, which made for a great learning experience. Definitely worth it if you are looking to improve your portraits.

I had an absolute blast at the light painting session with Callan Lewis. Callan is a high-energy instructor with a real passion for what he does, and it shows in the way he teaches. He has a wealth of knowledge and explains techniques clearly while keeping the atmosphere fun and creative. What I really appreciated was how engaged he was with everyone in the group ? encouraging participants not only to ask questions but also to make suggestions and experiment with ideas. It made the whole session feel collaborative and inspiring. I genuinely loved every minute of it and walked away feeling motivated to keep creating.

I attended Callan?s photography course over the weekend and it was fantastic. The session was incredibly well explained, thoughtfully prepared, and delivered in a way that made everything easy to understand. Callan was knowledgeable, approachable, and able to answer every random question we threw at him with clear, helpful insights. It was a great experience and we managed to capture some great shots on the night. I learned a lot and would absolutely recommend his courses to anyone wanting to learn!

Absolutely loved the course, finally I'm starting to get an understanding of how my camera works. Callan presents very well and gave us plenty of opportunities to practice the skills he taught us. Would participate in any class he does again.

I enjoyed it and learned a lot. The presenter was knowledgeable, made me feel at ease even though I'm just a beginner. It was a pity it didn't go longer. I appreciated the bit of time spent on an overview of equipment. I feel more confident taking photos already.

Hi, I’m Callan Lewis, I run photography courses focused on helping beginners and hobbyists finally understand their camera in a simple, practical way.
Most people who come along are either stuck on auto mode or feel overwhelmed by all the settings and terminology.
My approach is to strip it back and teach photography in a way that actually makes sense in real shooting situations.
We keep it hands-on and relaxed, covering things like:
Getting off auto and using more advanced modes and settings with confidence
Understanding light and how to work with it
Simple composition techniques that improve your photos straight away
Shooting in real environments around Toowoomba
Basic editing and workflow that keeps everything simple
The focus is always on learning by doing, not sitting in theory.

Whether you’re looking for group or one on one courses I can help.
If you'd like a little help to improve your photography without the confusion, feel free to come along or reach out.

Callan lewis is available for private bookings

I'm available for private photography sessions in and around Toowoomba before and after scheduled workshops, and I also regularly work out of Esk and surrounding country areas at any time by appointment.
Sessions can be tailored to suit what you want to focus on, including:
    Country and rural landscape photography
Golden hour and natural light shooting
Night photography and long exposure work
    Astrophotography (stars and Milky Way)
    Portrait sessions in natural environments
These are relaxed, hands-on sessions designed around real shooting locations, not classroom theory. We work through settings, composition, and lighting as we shoot so you build confidence in real time.
If you've got a specific idea or location in mind, I'm happy to work around it and customise the session to suit.

Usually i used to take 35mm or 50mm primes out in the streets, but i recently bought Nikkor 70 200 F2.8 S and wanted to test it out. I usually dont take photos of streets like this but the the trees and leaves were so beautiful that i had this composition in my mind and went for it. It was getting bit dark around 5.10pm and to get most of it i used 70mm , f 8 , iso 2000 and at 1/60 shutter speed and took few photos in sequence and chose the best one.

I was planning to a really dark site for camping take some amazing pictures of milky way but this time i was planning to get some foreground in my shots as i haven't done a milky way shot with presentable foreground before. The plan didn't go well as i wasn't ready with all the camping equipments. Then i thought about going to the darkest spot far away , taking the shot and coming back without camping but looking at fuel prices i didn't find it a great idea as i might end up not finding any good

My daughters and I trekked to the peak of Mt Isthmus near Wanaka New Zealand September 2025. It took us just over 6 hours to do the round trip. Well worth the pain. The photo was captured with my iPhone 16 pro. They say that the best camera you have is the one you have with you.

This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
